Valentine’s Day outfit ideas
When it comes to the weather, Valentine’s Day tends to be one of the trickiest times. We say that because while it’s definitely the most romantic and passionate of all holidays, being that it’s still technically winter but it’s also headed towards spring, sometimes the temperatures can be…shall we say “unpredictable”?
So, whether you have a formal or casual Valentine’s date (or event) coming up, we wanted to showcase several different looks (in shades of red and pink, of course) for several different climates and temperatures. That way, you’ll be ready (and sexy-looking) no matter what.
1. Red skinny jeans, glitter tank and white blazer
This is something that you can wear to work and then to whatever Valentine’s Day event that you have following it. If you’re rethinking it because of the glittery top, simply wear a blazer or even a solid color tank for work and switch over to the glitter after work. Don’t forget some taupe peep-toe shoes like these. They go with pretty much everything!
2. Red and black rose-printed party dress
Awh. Does it get any more perfect and “signature Valentine’s Day’ than a dress like this. The roses are a perfect alternative to the heart prints that you also might see a lot of. And although the dress is really “cutesy”, there is a bit of maturity that comes along with it thanks to it being red and black. (The shoes take it up a notch too!)
3. Pleated sleeveless flowing dress with matching accessories
What we like so much about dresses like these is the when material is light and flowing, it gracefully hits a woman’s body in all of the right places. It’s so feminine and romantic too. Colors like blush are also a great alternative if you’d prefer to not go the typical red or pink route.
4. Red lace one-shoulder dress with black accessories
C’mon! How could he not want to declare to the entire world that you are indeed the love of his life after seeing you in a dress like this one? If your man has already told you that he has something really special in store, but it’s a surprise, return the favor by SURPRISING HIM in a one-shoulder fitted lace number like this. (If you don’t want to wear black accessories, silver will do too!)
5. Fitted herringbone dress and red knit jacket
This is another outfit that we really like when it comes to having something that will take you from work to…something fun after work. Not only that but herringbone is a huge fashion trend right now. If you accessorize with red, you can bring a little “love” into the office.
6. Fuschia off-shoulder dress and sea foam green coat
Wow. What a stunning color combination, wouldn’t you say? We probably wouldn’t naturally think to combine fuschia and sea foam green, but after seeing it like this, pardon the pun, but we’re falling in love with it. Valentine’s Day or not.
7. Ruffles and red
It just looks romantic, doesn’t it? There is something about ruffles that seems to pull out the sentimental side in fashion. We’re not sure what it is. Whatever it is, wearing it this Valentine’s Day will not only make you look warm, sweet and lovely but “on trend”. Ruffles are here to stay for a couple of seasons, so you can never stock up on too many items that have them. At least not this year.
8. Pink cardigan, brown tank and distressed jeans
Pink and brown are a wonderful color combination too. So much better than pink and black. If you agreed to go on a first date to the movies with someone and you both agreed to keep things casual, this type of outfit will keep you warm on those cool February evenings. And the pink sends the hint that you’re very much aware of what day it is. #smart
9. Bright pink dress and grey military coat
Did you smile when you looked at this picture? There’s something about this particular shade of pink that simply brings out the JOY in people. Which is why we selected it for a feature in this post too. We like that it’s paired up with a grey coat rather than a black one. In fact, if we had a recommendation, we’d say go with grey in all of the accessories. It complements the pink…differently.
10. Red lace tank, black slacks and dark grey blazer
Did you and your co-workers agree with go out for drinks to get your mind off of not having a date for Valentine’s Day? If that’s the case, we still have a suggestion for you. Wear a little red anyway. You’re bound to run into some other folks who are single and hanging out. The hint of red in your clothing may send the message that you’re single and content…but also hopeful.
11. Pink ruffled top, black leggings and black leather jacket
Bubble gum pink. On its own, it usually looks like something a little girl would wear. But that’s not the case with this look: this says ALL WOMAN. Probably because of the studded leather jacket and over-the-knee high heeled patent leather boots. It’s not a look for everyone, but it will sure make Valentine’s Day unforgettable for everyone who sees you in it…if you decide to wear it.
12. Pink and beige combo
This is yet another wonderful work-to-dinner Valentine’s Day look. Or, if you’re going to be going to a wedding (being that Valentine’s Day does happen to fall on a Sunday this year!), it is the ideal wedding guest dress too.
13. Animal print dress and red crop jacket
There’s something about this entire look that is very…throwback, right? That’s actually what we feel is a part of its charm! The animal print is magnetic and with red accessories, you’ll look dainty with a hint of mystery and danger. Based on your Valentine’s Day plans, that might be the perfect “storm”.
14. Burgundy top and grey slacks
Burgundy is another variation of red that is nice on pretty much everyone’s tone of skin. Don’t wear it with black, though. To us, that’s way too dark. Grey is a preferred because it helps to bring out the warmth of the color.
15. Red dress and taupe cardigan
Does red and white seem a bit too, oh we don’t know…stark for you? If so, but you really want to wear a red dress and you know you’re going to need some kind of cover-up, opt for taupe accessories instead. It’s richer and warmer and will help you to absolutely glow this coming Valentine’s Day.
16. Marsala and chocolate combo
If you live in the kind of climate where you don’t even start to see warmer temperatures until well into March, this is another magnificent Valentine’s Day date dress. Marsala is a “mature red” and that chocolate leather brings out the absolute best in it! Plus, the make of the dress itself makes “sexy” seem like a totally underrated word.
17. Red skater dress and black leather accessories
Do you have a red skater dress that you haven’t worn since last summer because it has no sleeves? Girl, pull that thing on out and make it happen for Valentine’s Day! All you need to do is put on a tank or camisole under it for extra warmth (and perhaps a different layer of color) and a black leather jacket on top of it. Don’t forget some over-the-knee socks and ankle boots. #killinit
18. Red fitted dress and black strap heels
Does your man have big plans for you? If so, dress for the occasion. A red fitted dress and black heels has dinner, dancing and lots of kisses written ALL over it. Tip: Don’t overdo it on the jewelry when it comes to an outfit like this one. If the dress fits right, it will make enough of a statement—all on its own.
19. White dress with pink blazer
While some people are unfortunately under the misconception that white shouldn’t be worn before May or after September, we don’t submit to those ridiculous rules. This is a crisp and clean look for a Valentine’s Day dinner. Plus, being that white is the main color with pink being the accent, you’ll be the centerpiece of the room. No matter where the server may end up seating you.
20. Black graphic tank, Marsala skater skirt and black-and-white coat
Do you like to associate the holiday with fun more than romance? If so, we think that’s great and here’s an outfit to commemorate your state of mind. Pull out a black graphic tank and match it up with a skater skirt that is in some shade of red (or pink). If it’s really chilly, put on some opaque tights and a coat. And then go and have a ball!
21. Tri-tone tank, distressed skinny jeans and tuxedo jacket
Talk about an outside-of-the-box kind of outfit! ESPECIALLY FOR VALENTINE’S DAY! But that’s the reason why we simply had to include it. If you’re going to check out a concert at a local bar or club and the dress code is anything but dressy, here’s a way to be sexy and casual too. The distressed jeans and heels are sexy. The tuxedo jacket adds some class and then you can wear a tri-tone tank with some pink in it along with a clutch that’s pink to make everything look “rocker Valentine’s Day”. Umm…ish.
22. Brown and salmon combo
OK, so you don’t have a Valentine’s Day date. You and the girls have decided to take a road trip to get your minds off of the fact that you’re single this year. You can still look the part. At least a little bit. Rather than pink, try salmon. And then add to it some brown leather. You’ll look good enough to catch a few men’s attention…wherever y’all choose to go.
23. Flamingo-colored fitted dress with pearls
This color dress is in the pink family. According to many color experts, it’s called “flamingo” (learn something new every day, right?). With white or taupe accessories, you’ll be exquisite. For the style of this kind of dress, pearls work really well.
24. Red strapless peplum dress with white patent leather jacket
Are you looking for something that basically falls into the category of “semi-formal”? This works. In fact, it can work for formal too if you want to dress up but would prefer to not wear anything that’s super long. What this outfit reminds us is that accessories can change the entire game. The glitter and glam of the gold purse, heels and bangles are what make this a great look for Valentine’s Day or basically any special occasion.
